The Challenge
"10.000m2 of Denpox Topfloor for new water treatment plant in Copenhagen"
HOFOR supplies drinking water to large parts of the Danish capital Copenhagen and also manages the region’s rainwater and wastewater. When the company planned a new watertreatment plant they emphasized that the flooring system for the new building should come from DenCoat. This decision was based on their high satisfaction with similar flooring delivered by DenCoat to the recently constructed Copenhagen Power Plant.

Denmark is one of the few countries in the world where clean drinking water can be extracted directly from the ground. While the water can be consumed immediately, it typically undergoes oxygenation, filtration, and possibly light disinfection. Just like with food production, there are strict hygiene standards for drinking water supplied to citizens. This means that the floors at the waterworks must be easy to clean and able to withstand strong cleaning agents and hot water. Ensuring consumer trust in the tap water is absolutely essential!

The solution

DenCoat offers a range of flexible floor coverings suited to virtually all needs, whether indoor, outdoor, or in various environments. A common feature is that the floors are seamless, making them extremely easy to clean, as there are no joints or gaps for dirt to hide in. They are also resistant to chemicals and can withstand temperatures up to 70°C.

The flooring at the waterworks was laid over freshly poured concrete, which only needed thorough cleaning to remove construction dust and debris. A non-slip design was chosen with the addition of quartz, considering that water spills are expected during operations like water sample collection and filter replacement.

The state-owned Centros de Inspeção Técnica, which runs the car testing centres in Portugal, commissioned a renovation and repair of the many floors to be completed within a year. CIT expresses great satisfaction that the schedule was met, including that the work with the floors, for all testing centres, was completed on time, so that they could open as planned for their customers.

NCC awarded the contract to the danish flooring contractor Pihl Coating A/S to ensure high quality. The company specializes in flooring and also supplies the pharmaceutical industry, which prefers DenCoat products to ensure chemical-resistant and sterile flooring.
