Dencrete takes the heat at Nordzucker, Denmark
Being one of two sugar factories in Denmark, Nordsucker Nakskov was once the largest sugar factory in Northern Europe.Built in1882, it could process 300 tonnes of sugar beet per day. This made the factory one of the largest sugar-producing facilities in Northern Europe at the time. Today the factory in Nakskov is one of two sugar factories in Denmark and equipped with a modern steam dryer. Around 140 employees work here and are supported by another 40 temporary staff during the campaign. The facility produce sugar for the food industry as well as molasses and animal feed.
Renovation of Production Hall to Meet Stricter Food Industry Standards in Denmark
To meet the newly tightened hygiene and durability requirements within the Danish food industry, Nordzucker in Nakskov has completed a comprehensive renovation of its production facilities. As part of the project, a new, durable, and easy-to-clean industrial flooring system from Dencoat has been installed.
A total of approximately 3,000 m² of DENCRETE MD in 6 mm thickness and around 1,000 m² of DENCRETE HF in 9 mm thickness have been applied. The combination of these two systems provides optimal performance across different production areas – from dry processing zones to wet environments exposed to heavy traffic and chemical impact.
The installation was carried out by PIHL COATING, one of Denmark’s most experienced flooring contractors specializing in industrial coatings. The project was completed with a strong focus on minimizing production downtime, achieving a high-quality finish, and ensuring long-term durability.
With this upgrade, Nordzucker now benefits from a future-proof and HACCP food-approved flooring solution that meets both regulatory requirements and the company’s own high standards for quality and safety.
